On The Sunny Side Of The Street: Vol. 9

On The Sunny Side of The Street - JAZZ HOUSE KiDS enewletter

FROM THE [home desk] OF OUR PRESiDENT & FOUNDER

Dear friends and families,

Welcome to this week’s On the Sunny Side of the Street Vol. 9! As we start the summer season, as always, we have an exciting look at what we’ve been doing to help our community stay connected, creative and uplifted.

We want to kick off this week’s newsletter with a big HAPPY BIRTHDAY to our JAZZ HOUSE KiDS Artistic Director and my main squeeze CHRISTIAN McBRIDEWE THANK YOU for all you do to keep us inspired, learning and swinging through the changes!

We are in concert Sunday, June 7th! Our faculty and students have been busy at the JAZZ HOUSE — really busy! While our classes has finished for the semester, we are planning our online Spring Student Showcase on Sunday, June 7th (1:00 – 3:00 pm ET) for all our families and friends. I’ve had an opportunity to preview some of the incredible ensemble performances — as always, these students and our instructors have made online learning work and have knock it out of the ball park!

JAZZ HOUSE KiDS Relief Fund News! We are thrilled that our 2019 Spring Gala Master of Ceremonies, LESTER HOLT, anchor of “NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt” and “Dateline NBC” will return to host our Friday, June 19th benefit concert, Playing Through the Changes, to support the JAZZ HOUSE KiDS Relief Fund. Mr. Holt is a pretty great bassist too and we are thrilled and honored for his support and participation!

Stay tuned in the upcoming weeks for more announcements about the evening’s special guest jazz luminaries!

Let your voice be heard…Gifts of all sizes will make a difference to ensure that the doors to the JAZZ HOUSE keep swinging open. TO DONATE, visit our Relief Fund page. We thank you!

Summer is heating up – there is still time enroll! While this may not be our biggest beach summer, we encourage all to log on, listen, learn and play! We’re planning some awesome new online programs, with JAZZ IN JUNE kicking off next week! You’ll join students from around the world. Check out all the warm-weather offerings including our 1/2 day intensive JAZZ IN JULY, adult programming starting the week of June 8th and a new series of masterclasses starting in late June.

Enjoy your weekend and get outdoors — safely!

JAZZ HOUSE SPOTLIGHT OF THE WEEK

In tribute to our esteemed panel of drummers for this week’s Friday Night Listening Party, we present one of our rising stars, Matthew Lee. Matt comes a true JAZZ HOUSE KiDS family — his father, saxophonist Mike Lee is a long-time beloved instructor, his mom Rebecca Lee, is a talented violinist who has conducted masterclasses in our in-school programs, and his brother, Julian and sister, Jacquie, are former and current JAZZ HOUSE students, respectively. Matt will soon follow in his older brother’s footsteps at the Julliard School, entering as a freshman in the fall. Enjoy!
