JAZZ IN JULY: Calling all students from around the globe

4 Week Online Session
July 13 – August 7, 2020

Logon + Listen + Learn + Play!

Each day comprises of an in-depth musical focus giving students a deep dive into the technical aspects of their instrument, a chance to sharpen their improvisational tools, develop as a composer, and participate in a virtual big band. Highlights include a noon-time masterclass with CHRISTIAN McBRIDE, special guest artists, live-streamed concerts, and a weekly history/culture class.

STUDENT PLACEMENT:

All students from beginner to advanced are welcome. Audition guidelines and materials can be found on our Audition Process Page. Submit your audition video on ACTIVE. Same audition will be used for Fall

DAILY CLASS FOCUS:

  • MONDAY: Instrumental technique & style study of the masters of your instrument
  • TUESDAY: Improvisation + theory, introduction to jazz piano for non-pianists
  • WEDNESDAY: Composition, Film Scoring, Music Production/Home Recording
  • THURSDAY: Virtual Big Band – Learn to record your parts at home and have them layered to create a video recording of your ensemble that will last forever!

ADDED HIGHLIGHTS:

  1. GUESTS ARTISTS!: Interact each week with top jazz performing artists. Past guests include Ron Blake, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Anat Cohen, Antonio Hart, Louis Hayes, Ingrid Jensen, Geoffrey Keezer, Oliver Lake, Rudresh Mahanthappa, Norman Simmons and Eddie Palmieri.
  2. CHiCA POWER!: Second and third Fridays at noon. Special curated masterclasses that empower young women and the next generation of female jazz musicians
  3. FRIDAY NIGHT FAMILY DINNER LISTENING PARTIES: Hosted by Christian – McBride and Melissa Walker. Share dinner as a community every Friday night at 7:00 pm and check out some great music together!
  4. FAMILY DINNER SHOWCASE – August 7: Let’s share one more meal together and enjoy watching the Final Showcase featuring the debut of virtual big bands’ recordings, and student composition projects
  5. PRIVATE LESSONS: Advance sign-up is required. Book your private
    lessons when registering. $60 per 50 minute session
