Learn the nuance of jazz music with your peers! All experienced instrumentalists are welcome to join The Instrumental Jazz Academy program in partnership with Trinity Youth.The Instrumental Jazz Academy is among the nation’s top pre-collegiate instrumental training programs for serious-minded advanced students. Students will work with world-class jazz artists in weekly semi-private lessons, small ensembles, and Big Band to develop their skills and musical voice.

Many of our alums go on to attend world-class conservatories and prestigious academic institutions with significant merit-based music scholarships and are recognized on today’s jazz scene as tomorrow’s rising stars. Musicians will have opportunities to perform for the Trinity Youth community and in public concerts. Emerging musicians with one or more years playing an instrument are invited to audition for the Instrumental Jazz Academy at Trinity.

SMALL ENSEMBLES

MONDAYS: 5:15 – 7:30 PM
Learn how to play like the masters in small ensembles! Each of the ensembles focus on different eras and music of jazz to keep students engaged with the large variety of jazz music! 

AMBASSADOR ENSEMBLE

Ambassador Ensemble works on repertoire spanning from the Great American Songbook to the intricate fusion melodies of today.

BLUES + ROOTS ENSEMBLE

Blues + Roots Ensembles explore the foundations of jazz, the BLUES! Aimed at players that are just getting their feet wet in the jazz vernacular and are looking to expand their musical voice!

MESSENGERS ENSEMBLE

Messengers Ensembles build on the skills gained in Blues + Roots, and helps develop a deeper understanding of jazz improvisation and the history of the art form.

LARGE ENSEMBLES

WEDNESDAYS: 5:15 – 7:30 PM
This class provides students with expansive instruction in a Big Band setting, playing a wide variety of intricate arrangements and music from legendary jazz composers. Students also participate in cultural sessions where special guest artists and jazz historians take a deep dive in the history of America’s original musical art form coming from the African-American experience.

SMALL GROUP LESSONS

Weekly access to small group lessons are a key component for our student’s success on the bandstand. Once a student signs up for a music program at Trinity, they will be assigned to a weekly small group lesson.

RHYTHMS MAKERS

Tuesdays: 3:45 – 4:45 pm
RHYTHMS MAKERS teaches the nuances of different drums, and perform in a group dedicated to rhythm! A few of the rhythms we will explore in the Drum Ensemble: West African, Cuban, Brazilian and Peruvian.

Led by Elizabeth Pupo-Walker, this ensemble is a great experience for anyone looking to learn the basics of percussion from around the world.

SOULFUL VOICES

Thursdays: 5:00 – 6:15 pm
Soulful Voices is about and performing a wide range of vocal styles in a relaxed and open environment. This Vocal ensemble is open to any student interested in singing in a choir, and building vocal and jazz facility. The dynamic Soulful Voices ensemble provides year-round choral training with an eclectic repertoire mix of musical styles from bebop to modern jazz to soul. Receive training in vocal technique and choral singing while exploring various genres of music.

Led by the great Charles Turner, this group is a great experience for any of our young singers!
