March over to the JAZZ HOUSE!

2023 CHiCA Power

Happy Women’s History Month!

We’re back! Last Saturday, we were thrilled to kick off an amazing first day of CHiCA Power,® our nationally-acclaimed six-week jazz instrumental residency and workshop this spring specially focused on the empowerment of young women musicians. We welcomed 30 participants from 18 New Jersey towns and New York City to the JAZZ HOUSE @ Montclair. Lots of great energy in the room! All came with incredible enthusiasm, bright smiles and their love of playing music.

RiSE + IMPROViSE!

These young women have a story to tell and at the JAZZ HOUSE, we have created an environment that uplifts their voices and shines a light on their talents. This is particularly important at this time in their lives when upwards of 40% of girls experience a significant drop in self-esteem and sense of self between the ages of 11 and 14. CHiCA Power provides a rich and nurturing musical learning environment, exciting peer-to-peer engagement, and mentoring by role models who look like them. Over the course of this program, the impact has been a significant boost in positive identity, perception of their own potential, and the establishment of a caring community.

Keep swinging,

JAZZ HOUSE News

Jazz is Back in Town!

We are excited to announce our new spring concert + jam series, JAZZ in the ANNEX, a monthly jazz gig featuring a JAZZ HOUSE student ensemble, a performance from one of our talented faculty in their own bands (can’t wait for this!), followed by a two-hour jam session where all musicians are welcome. With the loss of Trumpets Jazz Club and the DLV Lounge in Montclair, JAZZ in the ANNEX will be a welcome hang this spring every third Thursday of the month, upstairs at the JAZZ HOUSE @ Montclair (NJ).

Bring your instruments and come check it out!
