JAZZ HOUSE KiDS is a nationally recognized and award-winning nonprofit music education and performance organization headquartered in Montclair, NJ. JAZZ HOUSE KiDS produces the MONTCLAIR JAZZ FESTIVAL and the JAZZ HOUSE Summer Workshop in August, which presents an excellent opportunity for interns to see many aspects of education, festival + event production and nonprofit administration during the summer. Every effort is made to custom-design an internship that meets the objectives of the intern and the needs of the organization. We seek dynamic and highly motivated individuals for exciting internship positions during the Summer of 2026. Internships are available in several areas including: Logistics, Student Services, Fundraising and Marketing/Communications.
Requirements
These exciting positions require highly motivated, entrepreneurial, and organized candidates with excellent verbal and written communication skills. Suitable candidates must be able to manage deadlines in a fast-paced work environment. Interest in working with youth, educators, and musicians is key. Proficiency using social media platforms is critical. Strong administrative and computer skills (Excel, Word, etc.) and proven research abilities are fundamental. This position requires creative thinking, strong independent work skills, and intellectual curiosity. Interns work closely with experts in key nonprofit fields, and selected interns may work for one or more of the following departments:
Development – Data-management and Systems Internship:
Help streamline fundraising and donor-relations by creating, managing, and maintaining electronic
data and record-keeping systems. An excellent opportunity to spearhead a project that will look great
on your resume.
Summer Workshop Student Services Internship:
Be a key part of the action during our fast-paced, high-energy 2-week summer intensive. This role
supports the student experience from start to finish, working across administration, social media,
student relations, program logistics, and event planning. If you’re highly organized, spreadsheet-savvy,
and love juggling multiple projects while keeping things running smoothly, this is your moment to
shine.
JAZZ HOUSE Summer Workshop + Montclair Jazz Festival – Social Media + Communications:
Assist in all areas of marketing for all summer activities at the JAZZ HOUSE. This hands-on marketing
and communications role spans media relations, social media content creation, newsletters, blogs,
analytics tracking, grassroots outreach, photo archiving, and video editing. Perfect for strong writers
and storytellers who live on social platforms, follow arts and culture news, and want real experience
using tools like Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, and video editing software—while promoting world-class
music and events.
Summer Workshop + Montclair Jazz Festival Musical Equipment Management:
Support the backbone of our live performances as part of the equipment team. You’ll manage inventory, organize gear, and support multiple ensembles across the JAZZ HOUSE Summer Workshop and other summer performances, culminating in the final Workshop performance at the Montclair Jazz Festival. This role is ideal for someone who loves production logistics, knows musical instruments, isn’t afraid of heavy lifting, and thrives behind the scenes making unforgettable performances possible.

- The JAZZ HOUSE Summer Workshop takes place largely on the campus of Montclair State University (Easily accessible by public transportations; train + bus)
Time Requirements
- Our office is open from 9:00am to 6:00pm on weekdays.
- We are seeking interns who can commit to at least 4 days per week for 8-12 weeks.
- Summer Workshop intern hours will increase to full time during the weeks of August 3rd and August 10th and long days can be expected in the days leading up to the MONTCLAIR JAZZ FESTIVAL on August 15th.
- We ask that all summer interns join us for the MONTCLAIR JAZZ FESTIVAL Downtown Jamboree on Saturday, August 15th, 2026, approximately 7am-11pm.
- Preference will be given to those who can commit to a full-time schedule during that time.
- All summer interns, regardless of focus, will be required to sign up to participate in four to five Festival and Workshop related events.
Candidate Qualifications
- Pursuing BS/BA
- Prefer GPA of 3.0 or higher
- Musicians strongly preferred
- An interest in music and nonprofit administration
- Excellent oral, written, and communication/presentation skills
- Spanish language skill is a plus
Physical Demands
Must be able to move objects or equipment up to 25 pounds.
Compensation
These are paid, hourly positions. We can also provide professional mentorship and administrative
reporting to satisfy requirements so that students may also earn academic credit.
