For over a decade, JAZZ HOUSE KiDS has presented JAZZ HOUSE Goes to College for students considering pursuing music at the collegiate level. We develop strong community leaders and global citizens by giving our students the tools to continue pursuing their goals long after they leave the JAZZ HOUSE classrooms.  This day-long program of action-oriented workshops, panel discussions, networking and a college fair with top universities from across the nation is designed to help students and their families explore the vast opportunities in the music industry, both on stage and off.

JOiN US for our Annual College Fair + Careers in Music Day!

JAZZ HOUSE KiDS is proud to present our annual program, JAZZ HOUSE Goes to College—a dynamic, day-long event featuring action-packed workshops, insightful panel discussions, and a college fair with top universities from across the nation. This event is a must-attend for high school musicians and their families who are considering studying music and exploring future opportunities. JAZZ HOUSE Goes to College is part of our Giant Steps: Careers in Music initiative, designed to help the next generation build valuable networks and create pathways for successful careers both on stage and in fields beyond the bandstand.

SCHEDULE

  • 9:00 AM – 9:30 AM: Continental Breakfast & Networking Start your day with a light breakfast and mingle with fellow students, parents, and industry professionals. This is a great opportunity to meet others who share your passion for music.
  • 9:30 AM – 9:45 AM: Welcome and Opening Remarks Join us for an introduction to the day's events and objectives. Learn what to expect and how to make the most of your experience.

Part 1: CAREERS IN MUSIC

  • 9:45 AM – 10:45 AM: “Careers On the Stage” Panel
    1. Discover the world of performing arts from seasoned professionals.
    2. Gain insights on building a successful career on stage.
    3. Topics include: Performance techniques, touring life, recording processes, and personal branding.
  • 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM: “Careers Off the Stage” Panel
    1. Explore behind-the-scenes careers that keep the music industry thriving.
    2. Learn about opportunities in music production, management, education, and more.
    3. Hear from experts who have built successful careers off the stage.
  • 12:00 PM – 1:15 PM: Complimentary Lunch + Careers Networking Mixer
    1. Enjoy a catered lunch while networking with students, parents, college representatives, and industry professionals.
    2. Live Music: Experience a live trio performance during lunch.
    3. Make Connections: Use this time to ask questions and build relationships that could shape your future.

Part 2: COLLEGE FAIR

  • 1:15 PM – 2:30 PM: College Panel Discussion
    1. Meet representatives from top colleges and universities with leading music programs.
    2. Learn about: Admissions processes, scholarship opportunities, program highlights, and campus life.
    3. Q&A Session: Get your questions answered directly by college officials.
  • 2:45 PM – 3:45 PM: Parent & Student Breakout Sessions
    1. For Parents: Engage in a Q&A session with college representatives. Topics include: Financial aid, housing, academic support, and how to support your child through the college process.
    2. For Students: Interactive session with college alumni. Discuss: Student life, audition tips, balancing academics and music, and firsthand experiences in college music programs.
  • 3:45 PM – 4:45 PM: College Fair
    1. Meet one-on-one with college representatives at their information tables.
    2. Collect brochures and detailed materials about various music programs.
    3. Explore and compare different schools to find the best fit for your musical journey.
    4. Continue conversations from earlier sessions and ask any remaining questions.
  • 4:45 PM – 5:05 PM: Closing Remarks
      1. Recap the day's highlights and key takeaways.
      2. Receive information on next steps, application deadlines, and additional resources.
      3. Thank you messages from the organizers.
