Jazz House Kids offers its Instrumental Residency Jazz Lab and Vocal Summit Jazz Residency at schools for students with special needs, taught by our teaching artists who are trained to work with students on the autism spectrum or with multiple disabilities.
The Vocal Summit provides specially arranged music for school choirs, while the Instrumental Residency follows the Pascal Norge method of teaching instrumental music to special needs students. This method uses modified instruments and a system of colors and numbers as an alternative notation system, enabling students to read music and count rhythms with ease, and invariably imparting a sense of pride and accomplishment.
Both programs culminate in recitals for fellow students, and performances at other Jazz House Kids events and concerts.
Please contact our Education Department at education@jazzhousekids.org or 973-744-2273 for more information about these residencies.
