Jazz House Kids Music Club

JAZZ HOUSE KiDS providing access

The Jazz House Kids Music Club is an instrumental music initiative that prepares middle school students to excel in high school music programs, with Jazz House Kids teaching artists and music majors from area universities providing weekly instruction.

Each student participates free of charge and receives more than 110 hours of contact time, including in-school or after-school small group lessons and ensemble rehearsals, school and community concerts, and masterclasses with guest artists.

The goal of the Jazz House Kids Music Club is to prepare middle schoolers for more advanced playing, and—equally important—to keep them excited about the arts as they enter a challenging social environment in their high schools.

These schools have hosted Jazz House Kids Music Club residencies:

  • Abington Avenue School (Newark)
  • Oliver Street School (Newark)
  • Rafael Hernandez School (Newark)
