As a bassist, composer, arranger, jazz educator and arts administrator, Christian has been one of the most important and omnipresent figures in the jazz world for more than 25 years. Melissa’s playlist selections draw from Christian’s impressive career — 13 of her all-time favorites from more than 350 recordings to his name.
Christian consistently combines his deft musicianship with an innate ability to communicate his enthusiasm to an audience — a warm showmanship that transform his own passion into infectious joy.
That passion will be on full display at the RALPH PUCCI 5th Annual JAZZ SET, a concert + conversation based on The Lowdown: Conversations With Christian, a weekly multimedia show he hosts and produces on SiriusXM radio. Christian’s special guest is world-renowned musician, composer and cultural ambassador WYNTON MARSALIS.

Christian’s second radio show, Jazz Night in America, produced in collaboration with WBGO, NPR and Jazz at Lincoln Center, showcases outstanding live jazz from across the country. In 2017, George Wein selected McBride to become the new Artistic Director of the Newport Jazz Festival. He is also the the Artistic Director of the Montclair Jazz Festival produced by JAZZ HOUSE KiDS.
