AN IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM JAZZ HOUSE KiDS REGARDING COVID-19

JAZZ HOUSE KiDS and Covid-19

Dear friends and family of the JAZZ HOUSE,

Our mission flourishes when the members of our community are healthy and safe. I am writing to share with you the key measures we are taking to ensure the well-being of our students, families, faculty, patrons, volunteers, partners and staff.

Amid the growing concerns over the COVID-19 spread and with the guidance of our health officials, we are in the process of transitioning all ensemble instruction at the JAZZ HOUSE to online. Using an interactive on-line learning tool, we will be able to bring students together with their peers and faculty each week.

Classes @ the JAZZ HOUSE:

  • Starting next week — As of Monday, March 16, both youth and adult ensembles and classes at the JAZZ HOUSE will be held online at their regularly scheduled day and time. For more information call 973-744-2273.
  • Duration — We anticipate delivering instruction in this manner for at least a month through spring break, Saturday, April 18.  We will reevaluate after four weeks and then make a determination about the rest of the semester.

CHiCA Power® Spring Residency:

This year’s seven-week free CHiCA Power Residency got off to a swinging start with 48 girls from across New Jersey coming together around jazz. Our faculty and incredible female guest artists really enjoyed working with the group over the last few couple of weeks, and we saw improvements in the girls’ musicianship and many friendships blossoming.

  • Program cancellation:  The program was cancelled this week and all related activities including attending a concert at Dizzy’s and our second annual Rise + Improvise Leadership Summit. The program will be back in the fall to pick up where we left off!

In-School Programs:

Every day week you can find our talented faculty in classrooms in Newark and Elizabeth. We are working in tandem with schools which are advancing quickly to provide instruction remotely.

Our Emerging Musicians Community Concert Program (Giglets):

  • Our giglet program is suspended for the rest of March.

Just like this music, it swings harder when played together, and it is together… as a community, we will get through this very challenging time.

I encourage you to seek out reliable sources for additional information on the virus to learn how to best protect yourself and your family.  This includes the  Centers for Disease Control & Prevention, New Jersey Department of Health and the World Health Organization.

I want to take a moment to thank each of you for your continued support of our efforts, especially during these unprecedented times.  I look forward to keeping you posted of our activities and hearing from you.  In closing, we find comfort in our community and are grateful for our health and safety partners committed work on the front lines.

Keep swinging in good health,

Melissa Walker
