1959, A SEMINAL YEAR

“To grasp the importance one year can play in jazz—or in any creative legacy for that matter—is to understand a few things. First, that artistic creation is often a shared tradition and that its forward motion, its own sense of growth, stems from a heightened sense of community. This is especially true in jazz where creation does not happen in a vacuum. Everyone is ultimately hearing everyone else, reacting consciously or in some deeper, intuitive fashion.”

—Ashley Kahn, Noted music historian

City Winery is an urban working-winery by day and an intimate music venue and dining experience by night.  The brainchild of entrepreneur, Michael Dorf and his out of the box thinking, the City Winery is now in eight locations with venues in Chicago, Nashville, Atlanta, and Boston.

Thanks to Michael Dorf’s generosity, JAZZ HOUSE KiDS is honored to announce that it is partnering with City Winery to launch the JAZZ HOUSE Music Club at the Grand Street Campus High School in Brooklyn.

ABOUT JAZZ HOUSE KIDS®

Founded by jazz vocalist and educator Melissa Walker, JAZZ HOUSE KiDS has been swinging doors open for 16 years, and our emerging musicians are soloing and singing to greatness. When young people come through the doors of the JAZZ HOUSE, they find a supportive safe haven, inspiring curriculum, like-minded peers, caring mentors, and artists who are the best in their field. Together, we explore the rich tapestry of jazz.
